What also worries me is that these changes suggest not only a difference in opinion regarding how a Twitter client should work, but also regarding just what the point is of Twitter as a service. The Twitter service I signed up for is one where people tweet 140-character posts, you follow those people whose tweets you tend to enjoy, and that’s it. The Twitter service this new UI presents is about a whole lot more — mass-market spoonfed “trending topics” and sponsored content. It’s trying to make Twitter work for people who don’t see the appeal of what Twitter was supposed to be.

Update: Seems like Apple will be spoiling the fun with the 5.1 iOS update (which is almost sure to come out this week due to the Carrier IQ situation). Thanks to @beast for the heads up!

I’m pretty late to the game here, but spurred on by some good Black Friday & Cyber Monday deals, I finally picked up a Keurig brewer. Makes coffee, tea and hot chocolate- making this thing one of the most useful appliances I now own.

Fliers Must Turn Off Devices, but It’s Not Clear Why:

Millions of Americans who got on a plane over the Thanksgiving holiday heard the admonition: “Please power down your electronic devices for takeoff.”

And absolutely everyone obeyed.

In the case of the Kindle and other e-ink devices, power is only drawn from the device for the brief millisecond it takes to refresh the display to the next page. Yet flight attendants nationwide will bug you if you’re caught reading your Kindle during takeoff and landing.

Since it’s been pretty much proven that electronics don’t interfere with aircraft instrumentation I’d like to see the FAA finally do away with this rule someday.
